As a saxophonist I am predominantly involved in the free improvisation and contemporary (new music/classical) music fields.
As a classical saxophonist I am committed to promoting it as a respected concert instrument often through the commissioning of new works. I have always been fascinated by the instruments freedom and versatility, with my key saxophonic influences coming from the British school of saxophone; Rob Buckland, Andy Scott & Simon Haram in producing an open, expressive approach in sound and performance.
This is countered by my love for free improvisation and my overall approach is highly influenced by the spirit of this music... predominantly tenor saxophone colossus Paul Dunmall.
As the co-founder and lead developer of the Tenor Saxophone Index the comprehensive online database and resource centre funded by the Royal Northern College of Music with international saxophonist and composer Andy Scott.
Intervention [FMR CD 334-0412] marked my first commercial release in 2012 on the FMR lable as a featured guest with my saxophonic hero improv legend Paul Dunmall. And November 2013 saw the release of my critically acclaimed debut classical tenor saxophone album SPEAK NOW a collection of original works for the instrument by many of the UKs leading composers!
